We will put out a new map at some point, but I will describe it here, you can reference the map to the right.

On the current map you will note at marker #5 there is a longer option and a shorter option that rejoin at marker #6.

Today we completed a project that removes the intersections at #5 and #6 (the markers have been removed). The short route is now incorporated into the main trail.

This accomplished two goals, to lengthen the main trail and to remove the intersections. This map includes the completed new loop that was an out and back last riding season. Of course, we have been done with the loop for a while, but with an injury, work and other stuff I haven't gotten around to getting the new map posted. Thanks, as always, to Neale Shour for the map work.

Note: The markers #17-21 have not been placed in the field, but we wanted to get the map done. The markers should be placed in September.

Also, watch for the field loop to be improved. We have some new equipment that will allow a uniform spraying of the field that will give a nice wide trail to prevent rutting from grass roots.

Update on the Out-n-back

Thought I should update the blog a bit. I have been slacking on keeping this up to date.

There has been a lot of trail work getting done this fall. The weather is good and we have had a lot of people stepping up and helping out. Most of the work has been on the out-n-back trail that we didn't finish last year due to the bad winter. Here are a few photos of some of the features on this section of trail. This trail is consistent with much of SWW, twisty singletrack with some technical features. The trail will have some longer stretches of open trail with more flow before it is finished.

Elevated walkway over a soggy area. At the right you will find the latest map for SWW. This map includes the new section of trail. This is currently an out-n-back, with the loop to be finished in the spring of 2011 (provided we have a better build year).

Although it is a bit of pain to ride an out-n-back, this new section is pretty nice stuff and needs ridden! There are a few things to tweak on it, but it largely finished until you come to the pile of deadfall that marks the turn around. Oh, and we conveniently put that at the bottom of a hill so you get to climb back.

ERTA Receives Award from MPRA

ERTA was honored to recently receive a Citation Award from the Missouri Park and Recreation Association. I find myself more worn out after 14 miles here than I tend to after 24 at SMV. And the nice thing is even with it being a short course, each lap I found myself getting faster and that just made it funner.

--This was a fun ride, a lot of climbing it seems at times.

--I took my wife and some friends out there and we rode on Saturday. I rode the first time with all of them and then again by myself to get an idea of the flow with a little speed going. I am impressed with the trail. It's not an epic all day trail by any means, but it's a great start and I'm extremely excited to finally have some single track in Liberty.

--I have to agree. I haven't ridden SWW a lot until just recently. I think I've got more work hours on it than ride hours. I'm growing more fond of it all the time. Nothing suppa' technical, just fun flowing, short climb trail. What a great spring evening.

We even sampled the new trail a bit. It is coming along nicely, with a good work day this Saturday we might be able to open it up. We are very close I think.

If you possibly can, get out for a hike, trail run or a ride. Apart from a couple of sections that you have to walk due to mud, the trails are in fantastic shape.

Well, some more work got done today. The bad news is that I am writing this while sitting in the hospital waiting for my son to get out of surgery. He managed to break his leg playing football. He should have been out doing trail work!

Anyway, Clay, Neil, Ed Overstreet, Trace Larson and Buzz and I got out today. We got a little bit more benchcutting done. We moved a fair amount of rock for armoring, etc. Also did a small reroute of the new trail to address a soggy spot. A nice day to be out. Things are looking very good for our 3/21 workday. Our goal is to open the new trail that day!

We did have a chance to try out Harter's new rock carrier.

Neale Shour has put together a new map reflecting the new trail to be opened in March.

Obviously this section isn't open to riding yet. But I think some hiking/walking on it would be good to pack it down as long as it isn't muddy.

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: This is very close to being done. I think about 8 more man-hours will have this section ready to open. This will be a very fun

little section with some switchbacks that will come around the pond on the city property and meet with the existing trail right as it enters the woods on the MDC property. I will have a map of this soon (if Neale Shour comes through like he always does!!!).

There will be a lot of small workdays in the coming months, so watch out for emails.

Remember, our big workday will be Dec. 6th. The plan is
similar to years past. Each trail will have local dates at their
discretion for smaller workdays and at least one big workday.
Our big workday will be December 6th. We hope to have about 2 miles
of trail flagged and there should be plenty of corridor clearing to
do. Watch for posts closer to time, if the corridor gets cleared
more than I expect, this could turn into more of a bench cutting
day. We may well have an option for another big workday late in the
season, like March or later. If so, this would almost surely be a
benching day.
Also, watch for posts on a regular basis for smaller work days. There
will be quite a few of these in the coming months and there will be
ample opportunity to help out. I think we have Buzz Taylor and Ron
Bodine tapped on a couple of smaller projects that will be very cool
additions and they might appreciate an email to see how you can help.
As always, give me a shout with questions.
Thanks.
Matt

Trail Building Kickoff, Oct. 4th

We decided to have a little social event to kick off the trail
building season.

This is just a social event, no actual trail
building will be done!

Come out to Stocksdale/Walnut Woods on Oct. 4th around 1 p.m.

Food around 2 p.m. There will be a little riding/hiking/trail running and then some food
and socializing. Now if we could get him to set up webcams for the
trail!

I know some of the local bike stores might be there (we have let
Cycle City, The Wheel and Biscari know about it)

Paceline Products might be there as well (Chamois Butt'r saved me
today with my third day riding in a row). They were critical for our
trail opening in June and have given us great support.

What to bring: Your bike. Your family. A lawn chair.

Hope to see you there!

Stocksdale and Walnut Woods Trail Opening

Well, I may have missed it due to vacation, but the trail opening was
a success. Here's the scoop on these trails. These trails are a cooperative effort between Earth Riders Trails Association, Missouri Department of Conservation and the City of Liberty. They are located in Liberty and involve both city park property (Stocksdale Park) and MDC property (Walnut Woods).

These trails are designed to be beginner friendly, but yet offer features that will appeal to the more advanced mt. biker. They are excellent trails for hiking and trail running as well. At this point in time the first phase of trails is nearing completion and we anticipate trail opening during the month of April 2008. The ultimate hope is to have 6+ miles of trail within 2-3 years.
